Noticing a gap in the market Vetstxt have developed Health Surveys to improve the level of diagnosis of Osteoarthritis and other diseases that restrict the mobility of dogs and cats. Over 80 Vet practices have carried out a self-diagnosis mobility survey for dogs. This is aimed at owners of dogs over the age of 8 who have not yet been diagnosed nor had some form of treatment for OA or other mobility problems.
The survey includes 14 questions that highlighted common problems that older dogs with mobility issues can suffer from, for example difficulties going up and down stairs, reaction to cold/damp weather and temperament. These surveys have been designed to be completed on a smartphone, attached to a text message, and personalised to each Vet Practice. Delivery rate for these types of surveys is around 95% with a completion rate of approximately 40%.
The majority of Vet Practices that have carried out this particular survey say that nearly ALL the clients that come into the practice for a review, result in some form of treatment for Osteoarthritis or other mobility problems.
Results were collected, collated, and formed into a report highlighting the key points from the survey answers. Clients were grouped ‘Red’, Amber’ and ‘Green’, Red suggesting the dog needs to be seen by the Vet and has a severe problem with mobility and Green suggesting the dog has no mobility issues and therefore does not need to be seen.
The majority of Vet Practices that have carried out this particular survey say that nearly ALL the clients that come into the practice for a review, result in some form of treatment for Osteoarthritis or other mobility problems. There was even one case where the Vet had to PTS two dogs that came in for a review due to severe mobility problems!
