Health Awareness

Lungworm Awareness

Lungworm can kill dogs. People can also be infected by their Pets, and, for young children, this can be serious.

The challenge facing Elanco is one of educating dog owners about this harmful parasite. There are two problems here. Firstly, only prescribed wormers are able to prevent Lungworm. Treatments bought from Supermarkets without input from a Vet just aren't good enough. Secondly, it is critical that the protocols for the prescribed drug are followed. Just giving treatment every so often to your pet is not enough.

We ran a campaign for Elanco with Meopham Vets, a large independent Vet Practice in Kent. They had some 8,000 active dogs whose owners were contacted. They were told about the prevalence of Lungworm in the area, advised about the symptoms to look out for. The campaign was staggered over 10 days to help their staff deal with calls from clients.

More than a third of these owners responded. There were two main benefits for the Practice. Clients who were members of their Health Plan and others who were following due protocols were reassured that they were doing “the right thing” for their dog. Those that were not either chose this as an opportunity to worm their dog or buy more product from the Practice.
